"Uncertainty looms as House GOP meets to select speaker nominee"
TL;DR
House Republicans are meeting to select a nominee for the next speaker, but it is uncertain if any candidate will have enough support to win the necessary 217 votes. The vote math has raised questions about when and how the GOP majority will be able to elect a new speaker, causing further complications as the House remains paralyzed and a government shutdown looms. The threshold to secure the GOP nomination may be raised from a majority of the conference to a majority of the full House. The timing of the House floor vote will be determined by the GOP nominee.
