Panthers' Scourton suffers ACL tear on first day of camp, sidelining rising edge

Panthers outside linebacker Nic Scourton tore his ACL on a wet practice field during the first day of training camp and will be placed on injured reserve. The 21-year-old second-year player started eight of 17 games last season, recording 47 tackles, 5.0 sacks and seven tackles for loss, and was expected to pair with Jaelan Phillips after signing a four-year, $120 million deal. Scourton will seek a second opinion, and Panthers coach Dave Canales and teammates showed support as he was carted off the field.
