"San Diego Storm Causes Widespread Flooding and School Closures"

An intense storm in San Diego caused flash flooding, shutting down highways, swamping roads, and prompting several school closures. The National Weather Service reported up to three inches of rain in three hours, leading to numerous rescue calls and power outages for about 14,500 San Diego Gas & Electric customers. Homeless shelters and the San Diego Central Library were also affected, with some residents resorting to paddling kayaks down flooded streets. Sections of major freeways resembled rivers and were closed until the waters receded.
