D.C. officials are partnering with the Therme Group, a wellness company, to identify a location for an affordable, resort-like spa with amenities such as a water park, indoor pool, and sauna. The project could bring 7,200 construction jobs over two years, add up to 800 permanent jobs, and generate $1.1 billion in local nominal tax revenue flow over 25 years. The facility could span the size of 10 football fields and attract up to 12,000 visitors daily. The partnership is part of D.C.'s "Comeback Plan," a five-year strategy to rebound economic development in the District after the pandemic.
