The Carbon Footprint of the World's Richest 1%: A Deadly Impact on Millions

The world's wealthiest 1% are responsible for emitting as much carbon pollution as the poorest two-thirds of the global population, according to a report by The Guardian, Oxfam, and the Stockholm Environment Institute. In 2019, the top 1% produced 16% of global carbon emissions, equivalent to the emissions of 5 billion people. The report also found that the carbon emissions of the richest 1% are enough to cause heat-related deaths for 1.3 million people. The report calls for a transition to renewable energy sources and a 60% tax on the income of the world's wealthiest 1% to reduce global emissions.
