Escaping Sudan's Military Conflict: A First-Hand Account.

Sudanese-American journalist Isma'il Kushkush recounts his experience fleeing Khartoum after being trapped in a building for eight days during the conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces. He and 32 others, including children and the elderly, eventually walked out of the building and embarked on a terrifying ten-day journey to get out of Sudan and across the border into Egypt. Kushkush reflects on the destruction he witnessed in Khartoum and the uncertain future of Sudan's transition to democracy.
