Gender-based violence and atrocities plague Sudan's ongoing conflict.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a powerful Sudanese paramilitary group, and their armed allies have been accused of reviving the tactics of the Janjaweed, including ethnic cleansing, in Darfur, and exporting them to other parts of Sudan as they fight a war with the country’s military. Eyewitnesses have recounted arbitrary killings, destruction of vital civilian infrastructure, looting of homes and hospitals, and mass rapes. The interest, influence, and material support of Russia’s notorious paramilitary group Wagner in the region is exacerbating the violence.
