ISIS Claims Responsibility for Deadly Attack on Syrian Soldiers, Pledges Ongoing Warfare

The Islamic State (IS) group has claimed responsibility for an ambush in eastern Syria that killed at least 33 soldiers, with the death toll expected to rise as some of the wounded are in critical condition. Despite their defeat in 2019, IS sleeper cells continue to carry out deadly attacks in Syria. The group once controlled large parts of Syria and Iraq, declaring a caliphate in 2014. IS stated that the ambush involved two army trucks in the province of Deir el-Zour, resulting in the deaths of 40 soldiers and injuries to 10 others.
