Russian Fighters Accused of Kidnapping and Torturing Fellow Fighters

A former commander of Russia’s 72nd Motorized Rifle Brigade, Roman Vinivitin, who was held hostage by the Wagner Group, has accused the notorious mercenaries of regularly abducting Russian troops and torturing them. Vinivitin claimed that the mercenary group was essentially at war with the regular army, even as both sides were meant to be fighting Ukrainians. Wagner founder Yevgeny Prigozhin has denied that Vinivitin was held hostage, saying instead that he was “detained for investigation.”
