Ethnic violence in Sudan's West Darfur region has raised concerns about genocide as Arab nomadic tribes linked with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attack non-Arab Masalit tribespeople. Local activists say at least 1,100 people have been killed and more wounded during attacks in el-Geneina that began in late April. The conflict has displaced nearly two million people and forced about half a million residents to seek refuge in neighbouring countries, leading to a humanitarian crisis. International stakeholders have not been able to establish a humanitarian corridor into Darfur due to the risks.
