Hostage-for-Prisoner Swap Delays, but Gaza Truce Remains Intact

The fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza is back on track after an hourslong delay in a hostage-for-prisoner swap. The exchange was temporarily halted due to accusations of violations from both sides, but Qatar and Egypt mediated to overcome the obstacles. Hamas released 17 hostages, including 13 Israelis, while Israel freed 39 Palestinian prisoners. The truce, brokered by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, has provided some respite for the war-weary people of Gaza, allowing for aid delivery and fuel access. However, the war has claimed the lives of over 1,200 Israelis and more than 13,300 Palestinians, with a surge in violence in the Israeli-occupied West Bank accompanying the conflict.
