Haitian Mob Lynches and Burns Suspected Gang Members

More than a dozen suspected gang members in Haiti were lynched and burned by residents in Port-au-Prince, as gangs have grown in strength since the assassination of President Jovenel Moise. Criminal groups control about 80% of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, where some 200 gangs operate with impunity. The UN has warned that insecurity in the city has reached levels comparable to countries in armed conflict, and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has urged the immediate deployment of an international armed force to stem escalating gang violence and the country’s worst human rights crisis in decades.
