Army Advances Competing Mid-Tier Interceptors for Enduring Shield

The U.S. Army is moving into phase 2 of the Integrated Fires Protection Capability Increment 2 (IFPC Inc 2) for a second mid-tier interceptor to accompany the Enduring Shield system. Boeing/Anduril and Lockheed Martin have advanced, with Rafael Systems Global Sustainment eliminated from contention. The goal is a scalable, lower-cost, modular interceptor that can be ground-launched from Enduring Shield launchers and provide defense against drones and cruise missiles while preserving magazine depth; production and munition stockpile challenges remain a broader concern as the services push for expanded multilayer air defense.
