Romania Upgrades Air Force Fleet with F-35 Selection.

Romania's Supreme Council on National Defense has approved the acquisition of F-35 Lightning II fighter jets to upgrade the country's air force, making it the third Eastern European ally to operate the fifth-generation aircraft after Poland and the Czech Republic. The number of fighter jets to be purchased and the acquisition's value were not disclosed. The F-35s are designed to strengthen Romania's modern fighter jet fleet, which currently operates 17 used F-16s acquired from Portugal.
