NATO defense ministers have pledged billions more in military aid for Ukraine as Kyiv enters the second week of its long-awaited counteroffensive against Russia. Officials in the US and Europe intensified plans to build more weapons for Ukraine over the long-term while also working to restock their own shelves at home. The need to supply and sustain Ukraine will remain for years, especially if Ukraine joins NATO. The defense industry is struggling to meet the demand of the conflict, and individual governments are scrambling to increase funding for their own defense industries to ramp up production and work through supply chain bottlenecks that remain from decades of neglect, and COVID-era disruptions.
