Brazil's Population Growth Hits Historic Low in Latest Census

Brazil's annual population growth has reached its slowest rate since records began in 1872, with a growth rate of 0.52% between 2010 and 2022. The country's population stood at 203,062,512 in August 2022, 6.5% higher than the previous census in 2010 but below projections. The decline in population growth is attributed to lower birth rates, with the southeast region being the most populated and the center-west region being the least populated. The census, originally scheduled for 2020, was postponed to 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lack of government funding.
