Baltic Countries Accelerate Separation from Russian Power Grid

Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have reached an agreement to accelerate their integration into the European Union's electricity system and disconnect from the Russian power grid by February 2025. The move comes in response to concerns about energy weaponization by Russia and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The Baltic countries, which are EU and NATO members, aim to enhance their energy security and strengthen the EU's electricity grid. The agreement was welcomed by European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen and Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson, who emphasized the importance of European solidarity and the support it provides for the implementation of the Green Deal.
