U.S. Companies Funding Russia's Nuclear Program with Billions

American nuclear power companies are paying around $1 billion per year to Russia's state-owned nuclear program for cheap uranium, which fuels more than half of America's emissions-free energy. As the US and its allies cut economic ties with Moscow amid the war in Ukraine, this nuclear energy money is one of the most significant ties left. Finding an alternative to Russia's enriched uranium supply could take years and a lot more funding from the US government than is currently allocated.
