BC's Wandering Island: Appears, Vanishes, Reappears

Officials say a forested floating island in Williston Reservoir, BC—roughly 9,800 square metres—was first spotted in early August and confirmed by a July satellite image. It then vanished in a later image, but has since been found again near shore about 30 km from its original location. BC Hydro isn’t sure of its origins, but driftwood and rising water levels this summer are strong theories. The island is not stable, and authorities warn people to stay off it.
