Floating island in BC reservoir appears briefly before vanishing
A tree-covered floating island briefly surfaced in British Columbia’s Williston Reservoir, estimated at about 105,000 square feet, and was confirmed by satellite imagery dated July 21 before disappearing by August 5. Officials say driftwood and vegetation growing on debris likely created the landmass amid unusually high water levels, and BC Hydro is monitoring the reservoir for any further appearances or impact.
