Canada's wildfires have generated record levels of carbon emissions, surpassing the country's previous annual record in just seven months, according to the EU's climate monitor. The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) reported that carbon emissions from Canadian wildfires reached 290 megatons, accounting for over 25% of the global total year-to-date. The unprecedented scale of the wildfires is attributed to warm and dry conditions, increasing the flammability of vegetation. The ongoing wildfire season has been the worst on record in Canada, with over 13 million hectares burned so far, forcing thousands to evacuate and causing air quality alerts in northern US cities.
