EU Implements Ban on Deforestation-Linked Products

The 27 EU countries have adopted new rules to regulate the trade of products such as palm oil, cattle, wood, coffee, cocoa, rubber, and soy, in an effort to reduce the bloc's contribution to global deforestation. The legislation requires companies to verify that the goods they sell in the EU haven't led to deforestation and forest degradation anywhere in the world since 2021. The law will also force companies to show that goods they import comply with rules in the country of origin, including on human rights and the protection of Indigenous people.
