Last Female of Rare Reptile Species in Vietnam and Yangtze Turtle Nears Extinction

The last known female Yangtze giant softshell turtle, a rare and sacred reptile in Vietnam, has died in a Hanoi lake, leaving only two known males remaining. The species is considered endangered due to habitat loss and consumption. The turtle holds a mythical status in Vietnam and is even worshiped by some. While there have been over a dozen potential sightings of previously unknown turtles in recent years, the species is now on the edge of extinction.
