Melting Arctic: World's Northernmost Research Station Thaws Due to Climate Change

Scientists studying the Arctic at the world's northernmost year-round research station in Ny-Aalesund, Norway, are facing challenges due to climate change. Glaciers are inundated by water, research sites are harder to reach, and data is getting harder to access. The Arctic is warming about four times faster than the rest of the world, and in Svalbard, temperatures are climbing even faster, up to seven times the global average. Polar bears, left hungrier due partly to the loss of sea ice, are more often seen prowling nearby islands in search of food.
