Ukrainian island community flooded by damaged Russian-occupied dam.

The Russian-occupied dam downstream of the Kakhovka Reservoir in Ukraine has been damaged, causing flooding in the nearby island community. The last dam along the Dnipro River in the Kherson region is controlled by Russian forces, and the sluice gates remain closed, causing the water to crest over the top of the dam. The little community, primarily made up of second homes, has become more permanent with the start of the war, when people sought safety in its isolation. The water levels are likely to drop slowly during the summer dry season, but the prospect of endless floods has left the community in despair.
