Twister strikes French village in Aude, injuring 41 and damaging hundreds of homes

A tornado hit the village of Pomas in France’s Aude department, injuring 41 people and damaging about 300 homes, with power outages affecting around 2,800 homes and widespread transport disruption as storms swept the region; the third stage of the Vuelta a Espana was canceled due to the weather. Winds reached up to 117 km/h near Arquettes-en-Val; more than 120 emergency workers were deployed and 15 people, including a pregnant woman whose house collapsed, were hospitalized. Meteo-France said the link between climate change and tornado frequency or intensity remains unclear.
