COVID-19: From Global Emergency to Ongoing Challenge

The International Health Regulations Emergency Committee has advised that it is time to transition to long-term management of the COVID-19 pandemic, as there is a decreasing trend in COVID-19 deaths, hospitalizations, and intensive care unit admissions, and high levels of population immunity to SARS-CoV-2. The WHO Director-General concurs with the advice and determines that COVID-19 is no longer a public health emergency of international concern. Temporary Recommendations have been issued to all States Parties, including sustaining national capacity gains, integrating COVID-19 vaccination into life course vaccination programs, and continuing to work with communities for strong risk communications and community engagement.
