Sarah Ferguson Opens Up About Second Cancer Diagnosis

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, has been diagnosed with malignant melanoma, her second cancer diagnosis within a year, after previously being diagnosed with breast cancer. She is currently resting at home with her family and remains in good spirits. Ferguson's dermatologist discovered a cancerous mole while she was undergoing reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy. She hopes that sharing her experience will encourage others to be diligent about checking for signs of melanoma. Melanoma is treated by surgically removing the tumor and surrounding tissue, and the 5-year survival rate ranges from 99.5% for localized disease to 31.9% for advanced cases.
