Amnesty reports horrific torture of child detainees in Iran

Iranian security forces have been torturing child protesters as young as 12 with beatings, flogging, electric shocks, rape, and other sexual violence to quell their involvement in nationwide protests, according to Amnesty International. The organisation has documented the cases of seven children in detail and obtained testimonies from 19 eyewitnesses. Iranian authorities have admitted that the total number of people detained in connection with the protests was above 22,000, with children comprising a significant portion of protesters. Amnesty International is calling for the immediate release of all children detained solely for peacefully protesting.
