Haitians Left Defenseless as Violence and Brutality Surge

Human Rights Watch (HRW) has warned that human rights abuses in Haiti are escalating, with armed gangs exerting control over the country and the state unable to protect its people. HRW documented 67 recent killings, including those of 11 children and 12 women, as well as over 20 cases of rape. The government's response has been weak, with affiliations between the police and criminals hindering prosecutions. The violence, driven by approximately 150 gangs vying for control, has led to widespread hunger, cholera outbreaks, and a breakdown of law and order. International intervention may be necessary to restore order and protect the population.
