Mass Arrests at Gay Wedding in Southern Nigeria

Over 60 people were arrested in southern Nigeria during a gay wedding, making it one of the largest arrests targeting homosexuality in the country. The arrests were made under the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Act, which carries up to 10 years in jail for gay individuals and their accomplices. The law, enacted in 2013, has faced condemnation both locally and internationally. The police spokesman emphasized that homosexuality will not be tolerated in Nigeria, stating that the country cannot copy the Western world due to cultural differences. The suspects will be charged in court after the investigation.
