Earthquakes and War Leave Syria's Northwest in Medical Crisis.

Survivors of the February earthquakes in northwest Syria struggle to find medical care in a war-torn region where hospitals have been bombed and doctors murdered. The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), a US charity that operates 13 hospitals in the area, has been providing medical aid to those affected. The quakes left 4,500 dead and 53,000 families homeless. SAMS spends $28m a year in Syria, with $10m of that contributed by US foreign aid. The charity's volunteers have been repairing injuries and providing prosthetic limbs, but worry about the future of those who have lost their families and homes.
