American Hostage Gadi Haggai Dead, Wife Still Held by Hamas

Gadi Haggai, a 73-year-old US dual national and Israeli citizen, has died in captivity in the Gaza Strip after being kidnapped by Hamas during an attack in Israel on October 7. His wife, Judi, who also holds American citizenship, remains a hostage. Gadi Haggai is the first American hostage to have died. The Hostages and Missing Families Forum reported that between five and ten of the hostages held by Hamas have US citizenship. Israel has signaled a widening ground offensive with a new push into central Gaza.
