France leads evacuation as deadly fighting continues in Sudan.

France led an effective evacuation effort to get foreigners out of Sudan during the recent conflict, including citizens of many African countries, Europeans, and Americans. The French took control of the airstrip and enabled allies to conduct their own airlifts. The operation, called "Operation Sagittarius," was a dangerous mission, but in 48 hours, the French airlifted 538 people from Khartoum, including 209 French nationals. The French intervention opened the way for other countries to evacuate their citizens.
