IAEA and UN Sound Alarm as Russia Evacuates Near Ukraine Nuclear Plant

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned that the situation around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, Europe's largest nuclear power installation, has become "potentially dangerous" as evacuations are under way in nearby areas due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Russian-installed governor of the Moscow-controlled part of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region has ordered the evacuation of villages close to the front line as shelling has intensified in the area in recent days. The IAEA director general has repeatedly warned of the dangers of military operations around the plant and called for measures to ensure its safe operation.
