U.N. Envoys Demand Cease-Fire on Gaza Border Visit

UN Security Council envoys visited the Rafah border crossing, the only entry point for aid into the besieged Gaza Strip, and spoke of the unimaginable suffering and urged an end to the war. The majority of UN member states support an immediate and lasting ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, as conditions worsen for Gaza's 2.3 million residents. The US vetoed a proposed Security Council demand for an immediate ceasefire. The envoys were briefed on the dire conditions in Gaza, including malnutrition, collapsing medical system, lack of water and food, and the ongoing conflict. UNRWA chief described an "implosion of civil order" and hunger prevailing in Gaza. The UN General Assembly will meet to vote on a draft resolution demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.
