Armenia PM warns of imminent conflict with Azerbaijan

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has warned of the likelihood of a new war with Azerbaijan, accusing Baku of ongoing genocide in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. Despite mediation efforts by the EU, US, and Russia, little progress has been made towards a peace treaty. Pashinyan called for increased pressure on Azerbaijan to lift its blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh, which has caused shortages of food, medicine, and energy. The involvement of the EU and US in the region has strained relations with Russia, the traditional power broker. The conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh has resulted in two wars, with the most recent ceasefire deal brokered by Russia in 2020 leading to territorial concessions by Armenia.
