China Emerges as Top Threat to U.S. in American Polls

According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, half of Americans polled consider China to be the biggest threat to the United States, while only 17% named Russia. The survey reflects a growing negative view of China among Americans, with unfavorable opinions rising from 79% in 2020 to 83% in 2023. Tensions between the US and China have been fueled by issues such as China's human rights policies, technological power, and its partnership with Russia. The survey also found that large majorities of Americans see China as an economic and national security threat. Efforts to mend ties between the two countries have included diplomatic engagements and high-level visits, but a gap in understanding between the younger generation of US experts on China and their Chinese counterparts remains.
