China and Pakistan have issued a joint statement calling for the settlement of the Kashmir dispute according to the United Nations Security Council resolutions, opposing any unilateral actions that could further complicate the situation. The statement was released after a meeting between the Chinese and Pakistani foreign ministers in Islamabad. This comes a day after a war of words between the foreign ministers of India and Pakistan over bilateral disputes at a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in Goa. India maintains that the Kashmir issue should be resolved bilaterally and not through any third party.
