Congressional Leaders Aim to Pass Urgent Military Aid for Ukraine and Israel Before Christmas

Congressional leaders, including U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, are prioritizing the passage of military aid packages for Ukraine and Israel before Christmas. President Joe Biden requested a $106 billion aid package, with over $61 billion allocated for Ukraine. Republicans have threatened to block the aid unless there are security resolutions on the southern border. To avoid a government shutdown, Biden signed a temporary spending bill, leaving the issue of continued aid for Ukraine unresolved. Schumer stated that lawmakers will also work on an immigration package for border security. If a solution is not found by the New Year, passing aid packages for Israel, Ukraine, the Indo-Pacific, and border security may become increasingly difficult.
