EU Lifts Sanctions on Three Russian Businessmen, Sources Say

The European Union will not renew sanctions against three Russian businessmen and a deceased military leader when the current punitive measures expire this week. The businessmen include Grigory Berezkin, Farkhad Akhmedov, and Alexander Shulgin, while the military leader is Georgy Shuvaev. The EU considers the listings to be legally weak and uncertain to stand up in court if challenged. The sanctions, imposed in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, include a travel ban and asset freeze and cover about 1,800 individuals and entities.
