Germany's Defense Minister Commits €1.3 Billion in Military Aid to Ukraine

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius visited Kyiv and pledged further military aid worth 1.3 billion euros ($1.4 billion) to support Ukraine's efforts in its war against Russia. The aid includes anti-aircraft missile systems, anti-tank mines, and artillery shells. Pistorius's visit follows U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's trip to Ukraine, where he promised additional support, including $100 million in weapons. The visits aim to keep the conflict in public attention amidst other global issues. European Council President Charles Michel also arrived in Kyiv on the 10th anniversary of Ukraine's Revolution of Dignity. Russia continues to view the uprising as a coup orchestrated by the West. The fighting in Ukraine has lasted almost 21 months, with no major changes on the battlefield. The U.K. defense ministry warned that Russia could target Ukraine's power grid again. Germany is the second-largest provider of military and financial support to Ukraine after the United States.
