India and ASEAN conduct joint naval drills in South China Sea.

India is sending a destroyer and a guided missile stealth frigate to participate in a maritime exercise with the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the South China Sea. This is the first such naval exercise with the ASEAN grouping, and comes as several ASEAN nations, including Vietnam and the Philippines, have maritime disputes with China. The exercise was initiated at the Changi Naval Base in Singapore on Tuesday, with warships from participating nations scheduled to enter the South China Sea on Sunday.
