Israel's Defense Minister Hints at Opening Second Front in Lebanon as Hezbollah Targets IDF Facilities

Israel's defense minister, Yoav Gallant, has hinted at the possibility of opening a second front in Lebanon to push Iran-backed Hezbollah away from the Lebanese border. Gallant stated that the government would not encourage residents evacuated from northern communities near the border to return until Hezbollah is driven back beyond the Litani River. While Israel hopes to resolve the issue diplomatically, military action will be taken if necessary. Hezbollah has not honored the 2006 agreement to maintain no presence south of the river and has been launching rocket and missile strikes on Israel. U.S. officials have warned against any expansion of the conflict and have expressed concern about Israel's role in escalating tensions with Hezbollah.
