Japan's Prime Minister Vows Support for Fishing Industry Amid China's Seafood Ban

U.S. ambassador to Japan, Rahm Emanuel, visited Fukushima and expressed his expectation that the U.S. would support Japan in the event of a dispute with China over the seafood ban at the World Trade Organisation (WTO). Japan has released treated radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean, prompting China to impose a ban on Japanese aquatic products. Japan seeks an immediate end to the ban and has threatened to resolve the matter through the WTO. Japan's Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, plans to compile measures to assist the fishing industry affected by the ban, including additional funding from the government's budget reserves.
