North Korea's Provocative ICBM Launch Amidst Threats to the US

North Korea launched a suspected intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) towards the east from the outskirts of Pyongyang, two days after threatening the U.S. over alleged spy plane incursions. The missile flew for 74 minutes, traveled 620 miles, and reached a maximum altitude of about 3,725 miles before falling into the Sea of Japan. Both South Korea and Japan condemned the launch as a violation of UN Security Council resolutions. North Korea's first missile test since June, it comes amid stalled talks on denuclearization and preparations for a possible seventh nuclear test.
