Russia's Covert Disinformation Campaign in Latin America Funded by Kremlin, US States

The United States has accused Russia of funding a disinformation campaign across Latin America, aimed at spreading propaganda and fake news to weaken support for Ukraine and fuel anti-U.S. and anti-NATO sentiments. The State Department stated that Russia's goal is to launder its propaganda through local media in a way that feels organic to Latin American audiences. The campaign is coordinated by three Russian organizations and involves cultivating journalists in Latin America to review and publish content created by teams in Russia. The primary outlets carrying the material are online Spanish-language news outlets Pressenza and El Ciudadano. The European Union has already imposed sanctions on two of the coordinating organizations.
