The Wagner Group's Impact on Private Security in Africa and Beyond

The Wagner Group, a private military company, has been involved in various conflicts in Africa, helping abusive regimes maintain power, consolidating nascent dictatorships, and violating international law. Despite this, there has been little opposition to its activities, as individual African actors benefit from its presence, and the African Union has remained silent. Russia's propaganda apparatus and profit motives are driving its involvement in Africa, and there is unlikely to be any effective international mobilization against Wagner.
