US Government Responds to Public Feedback

The United States has acknowledged Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley's repeated calls for the relaxation of sanctions against Venezuela to facilitate engagement between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela. Congressman Gregory Meek stated that the issue has been brought up by Rowley in various meetings and that dialogue is ongoing. Democratic Leader of the House of Representatives Hakeem Jeffries emphasized the importance of shared democratic values and expressed concern about the rise of autocracy globally. Rowley clarified that the absence of Venezuela from the Caricom meeting was not a slight, and no conditions were laid down by either Trinidad and Tobago or the US for the delegation's visit.
