US Trade Envoy Tai Pushes for Stronger Economic Ties in Asia

US Trade Representative Katherine Tai said during her visit to Tokyo that the US is not seeking to decouple its economy from China's, and that regular trade work between the two countries is continuing. However, the US is seeking to strengthen and expand economic security cooperation with its Asian allies and partners in response to China's growing assertiveness and dominance in many manufacturing industries. Tai also discussed making supply chains more resilient and secure with Japanese officials and reviewed the status of negotiations on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, a new trade pact proposed by Washington.
